Dr. George I. Martin: Director & English Tutor

Dr. Martin grew up near a small town in the Adirondacks, where he obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. At Plattsburgh State University he obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education and his Master of Science in Education degree in secondary English.

After teaching in a junior high school for five years, he moved to Virginia and taught English and public speaking at Fork Union Military Academy for fourteen years.  He also coached the debate team and the varsity soccer team.

Obtaining a full scholarship permitted George to attend the University of Virginia, where he obtained his Doctor of Education degree in Curriculum & Instruction with an English major and minor areas of evaluation and rhetoric & communication. He also received the Richard A. Meade Award for Outstanding Promise in Education.

Dr. Martin has taught at twelve colleges and universities and served as chairperson of the Department of Curriculum & Instruction at William Paterson University.  

His accomplishments include having been published in several professional journals, and having made presentations on pedagogy throughout the United States (and in The Netherlands).  He has also served as an English supervisor in a high school, acting principal at a charter school, and headmaster of a private academy.  Furthermore, he earned a third-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do and coached debate and soccer.

Dr. Martin tutors English in all its forms:  writing, reading, grammar, usage, mechanics, vocabulary and spelling.  He holds a Commonwealth of Virginia Postgraduate Professional License in English, Kindergarten Elementary Grades 1-7, and Speech Communication.
